Just another Vancouver Canucks appreciating blog. I love the Swedish trio consisting of Henrik and Daniel Sedin, and Alexander Edler (though particularly fond of Henke), Roberto Luongo, Alexandre Burrows, and Jannik Hansen. My boys are flawless and precious, and I refuse to hear otherwise. (x)

Brandon Dubinsky’s helmet saves him from a nasty skate slash and Leopold grabs him quickly thinking he’s hurt.

4 days left until the puck drops
↳ Due to the realignment, there will be four divisions in the NHL as of 2013/14 season.Every team in the West plays 29 games within their own division, 21 games against non-division conference foes and 32 games - one home and away - with each Eastern Conference team. In the East, the schedule includes 30 games inside the division, 24 against the conference’s other division and 28 games - again, one home and away - with every team in the West. That means all 30 teams play in all 30 arenas this season. Sixteen teams still make the play offs: the top three from every division result in six spots per conference, the other two, called wild-cards, come from the two remaining teams with the most points regardless of their division.

People follow a sport like hockey and they look for symbolism. They want the game to mean something. They want the game to matter. So to them, a fresh sheet of ice, just after the Zamboni has made its final spray of water, presents the purest vision of possibility they could imagine. Skates being sharpened over and over and over again, our meditation on perfection. And the routines and rituals that surround the rink are a language of dedication in need of no translation. To them, games aren’t meant to be seen, they’re meant to be felt. Blood points a path directly to the heart. Sweat, a trail to the soul. And tears, a connection to a conviction that people search for their entire lives. The ones who look for something more, who believe in something more, are the ones who turn close games into unforgettable nights. Who transforms great players into heroes for all time. And, who no matter what, maintain unwavering faith in the incredible. There are people out there who look at something like hockey, and they want the game to matter. So it does.
